Privacy and terms
What this site keeps, and what it claims.
Short version: no tracking, no advertising, nothing sold. What you send me is used to reply to you.
Who is responsible
This site is published by Michael Duncan McArthur in Toronto. I am responsible for how it handles personal information, and the person to write to about it: [email protected].
What this site collects, and where it goes
Reading pages. Nothing. There is no analytics script, no advertising and no tracking cookie, and I don't log who visits. Cloudflare sits in front of the site to deliver it and to block abuse. It sees network traffic the way any delivery network does, and handles it under its own privacy policy.
The contact form. What you type (your name, email, topic and message) is relayed to my email by Web3Forms. I use it to reply to you and for nothing else. It is never added to a mailing list or shared, and I keep it as ordinary correspondence for as long as the conversation is live, then delete it.
The assistant. The "Ask" assistant answers questions about my work from what this site already publishes, and says when the answer is not there. Questions are kept for 90 days to improve the answers, without anything that identifies you: email addresses, phone numbers, long numbers, web addresses and names are removed before a question is stored, your IP address is never stored, and no cookie or identifier is attached. After 90 days only counts remain. It runs on my own server and sends nothing to any other company. Its answers are generated and can be wrong, so check the pages it links to. It cannot grant access to anything, make commitments, or speak for me.
Case-study access. The case studies are shared by request. If I add you, Cloudflare Access emails a one-time code to the address you gave me and keeps you signed in with a cookie for up to a month. That cookie is needed for the sign-in to work, and it is the only cookie this site sets. Cloudflare keeps its own sign-in records under its policy. I keep your email on the access list until you ask me to remove it or the review is over, and the email decides which pages you can see.
Your rights
You can ask what I hold about you, ask me to correct or delete it, or ask to come off the access list at any time, by email. I'll answer within 30 days. The same rights apply under the law where you live, including in the EU, the UK and Quebec, and you can complain to your privacy regulator if you think I've got this wrong.
Terms
What's here describes past work and current practice. It is published in good faith and without warranty of any kind, and nothing on it is an offer, a quotation or advice.
Each case study names the organisation that owned the work and the role I played in it. Titles are given as they were held. Client, employer and product names are their owners' trademarks and appear for identification only. Some studies are marked as work in progress, or use placeholder images, and say so on the page.
The writing and the design of this site are mine except where credited. Quoting with attribution is welcome; reproducing the site, or substantial parts of it, is not.
If something here is wrong, tell me and I'll fix it.
